Prayers for Pilgrims
  • Father in heaven,

may the faith you have given us

in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,

and the flame of charity enkindled

in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,

reawaken in us the blessed hope

for the coming of your Kingdom.

    May your grace transform us

into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.

May those seeds transform from within

both humanity and the whole cosmos

    in the sure expectation

of a new heaven and a new earth,

when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,

    your glory will shine eternally.

May the grace of the Jubilee

reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,

a yearning for the treasures of heaven.

    May that same grace spread

the joy and peace of our Redeemer

    throughout the earth.

To you our God, eternally blessed,

be glory and praise for ever.

    Amen.

  • Lord God, when you freed your people from slavery,

    you journeyed with them,

guiding them by the light of your presence

    to the promised land.

    Through the waters of baptism

you led us out of the slavery of sin

into the new life of the Spirit.

Let the light of Christ enlighten our path

and his word unlock for us the mystery of your love.

Hear our prayers as we make this journey of faith.

Open for us the possibilities for growth

    that come from human challenges

and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Affirm our faith in this time of fellowship

    (penance) and prayer

and reveal your strength that shines

    through human weakness.

As we have begun with your inspiration and grace,

so bring our journey to completion

through our communion in the Holy Spirit.

To you be glory and praise in the Church,

in Christ your Son, and in the Holy Spirit,

God for ever and ever. Amen.

  • Blessed are you, Lord God,

guide and companion of your people.

When Christ journeyed with his disciples

    on the road to Emmaus,

he revealed his presence among them,

as he opened the scriptures and broke the bread.

We thank you for Christ's presence

    on our journey of faith

and the insights of the Holy Spirit

that reveal to us the wisdom of your ways

and the wonder of our being

We praise you for the healing presence of your Spirit,

when we share the stories of our lives

and break the Bread of Life with others.

We pray that the journey of faith we began in baptism

    and symbolized in our pilgrimage,

may bring us closer to the unity,

peace and justice of your kingdom,

where you live and reign for ever and ever.

    Amen.

    • Lord God, by the grace of our baptism,

you have given us new life in Christ

and called us to serve as pilgrims of hope.

We pray in thanksgiving for those who have responded to your call

for the building up of your Church

and the service of their sisters and brothers.

      Through their varied ministries,

may they touch the hearts of all in our community

who long for the hope, born of our Christian faith,

      that never disappoints.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
