The Catholic Women’s League of Canada is a national organization rooted in gospel values calling its members to holiness through service to the people of God. It is the largest national organization of catholic women in Canada. The patroness of the League is the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title Our Lady of Good Counsel.
With a long history in St. Andrew our Council received its Charter in 1922, just two years after the League was organized nationally. Our Council initiated, or was involved in almost all the areas of the Parish and Community Life that now fall under the various ministries established at the time of the Parish Council. Members continue to serve in many of these ministries.
In the parish our Council supports awards to St. Thomas, St. Vincent and St. Luke, gifts of First Communicants and those being confirmed, remembrances to shut-ins at Christmas, sponsors annual seniors trip, a monthly coffee morning, holds an annual Carnation sale in aid of Pro-Life, among other things. In 2000, through the national organization, the Council contributed to help supply prayer books to all those attending the World Youth Day celebrations in Toronto.Under our Constitution and Bylaws through various standing committees, members strive for spiritual, cultural and intellectual growth and the development of social action. Our Bishop is very supportive of the League in our Diocese and encourages all catholic women sixteen years and up to become members. There is a place for you in our Council.
